Description

It was an old estate bungalow & service building within a 100 acre coconut estate that was to be converted to a luxury estate bungalow suitable for family holidays and to promote agricultural tourism. The Corea Estate located on the shores of Deduru Oya (River) about 17km from the town of Bingiriya was a unique opportunity. Located away from the usual tourist routes and towns, in the heart land of what is the ‘coconut triangle’ of Sri Lanka, provided with ample opportunity to renovate, elevate and repurpose the existing building.

The renovation mostly using local builders, material and know-how adds 4 bedrooms with ensuites and common verandah and living dining areas allowing for extended families or families travelling together to have a large private bungalow to themselves.

A visitor arrives at an entrance forecourt shaded by a large “Kon”tree enjoying views of the estate in all directions. Then lead through a corridor flanked by a courtyard planted with local tropical shrubs and bushes, one arrives in to the hall way flooded with sunlight through an overhead skylight. The architectural design creates vistas from every space into different landscapes outside and landscaped courtyards. Client’s own original art collection brings in colour and flavour to the interiors.

Add to the charm are the farm experiences in the coconut estate from Dargon Fruit cultivation to pony rides to bathing in Deduru Oya and bicycle rides through the estate and local villages.
